Georges St-Pierre can relate to Nick Diaz not enjoying fighting: ‘I hate fighting as well’

Former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre can relate to Nick Diaz not enjoying fighting, and says he hated fighting as well.

Diaz returns to the the Octagon on Saturday after a six-year layoff against former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler. In a recent interview with ESPN, Diaz said that there’s nothing about fighting that he enjoys.

St-Pierre, who was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame on Thursday, understood Diaz’ sentiments.

“I can relate to that. I hate fighting as well. I hate it,” St-Pierre said during a scrum interview at his UFC Hall of Fame induction ceremony. “I did it because I used that as a benchmark to get me where I wanted to get to in life. I don’t like fighting. It’s the worst day of my life the day that I fight, but I used that to get me in life because I love the freedom, the health, the fitness, the wealth, the access to things that other people do not have.”

“There’s a lot of good advantages, but you need to pay the price a few times a year if you want to be a fighter among the elite,” St-Pierre added.

St-Pierre holds a win over Diaz. Asked how he thinks Diaz will look in his return, St-Pierre hoped Diaz is as good or better than he ever was.

“It’s a big X-factor. Will he come back as good as he was, or has this layoff had a negative impact on him? I don’t know,” St-Pierre said. “I just hope that he comes back as good as he were because I’m afraid that he left a lot of money on the table. I hope I’m wrong, and I hope he comes back even better than he was and goes for a shot at the title.”
