UFC 266 Results: Valentina Shevchenko dominates Lauren Murphy

Women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko put her title on the line for the sixth time on Saturday against no. 3 ranked Lauren Murphy in the UFC 266 co-main event.

Shevchenko has dominated the division since winning the title and continued her dominance on Saturday.

In the opening round, Shevchenko outclassed Murphy with her striking and ended the round by taking down the challenger. The second round look a lot like the first except that Shevchenko secured a takedown earlier in the stanza. She put Murphy on her back with two minutes remaining and kept her there for the remainder of the round.

Shevchenko continued to pick her shots and land on Murphy in the third. She beat Murphy to the punch and connected with combinations. Murphy tried to respond, and did land a couple of punches, but she was simply being dominated by the champion.

In the fourth round, Shevchenko picked up the pace. A right hand staggered Murphy and Shevchenko put her foot on the gas and connected with a kick and a series of punches. Murphy desperately tried to move away but Shevchenko kept the pressure on. After taking Murphy down, Shevchenko connected with punches and elbows until the referee stepped in and stopped it.

With her sixth title defense behind her, Shevchenko has nearly cleared out the women’s flyweight division. She doesn’t care who she faces next, or what weight class the fight’s in.

“I’m ready for anyone. I always say I’m ready for anyone. It doesn’t matter the weight class, no matter anything. I’m ready. I’m here. I’m the champion,” Shevchenko said following the win.
