LAS VEGAS – Mason Jones is not happy with Alan Patrick.
The former Cage Warriors two-division champion wants to see Patrick get his walking papers from the UFC after withdrawing from their bout originally scheduled for Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 196.
Jones (11-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and Brazil’s Patrick were set to rematch after their first fight in June. That bout ended in a no contest after an accidental eye poke from Jones. Patrick withdrew from the rematch due to COVID-19 protocols.
With Patrick’s absence, Jones took on late replacement David Onama, whom he beat in a unanimous decision. Jones is upset with Patrick and hopes he doesn’t compete in the UFC again.
“If Alan Patrick is watching, I hope you get cut and I hope you never fight in the UFC again,” Jones told reporters at the UFC Fight Night 196 post-fight press conference. “That guy is literally – he doesn’t deserve to fight.
“He signed against me with no intentions to fight. He pulled out on 10 days’ (notice) and literally when he pulled he told him he’d be clear by November. The guy had no intentions to fight me. I smashed him in the first fight and he found a way out, which is my fault (due to the eye poke). And now, obviously this fight he had no intentions to fight me. I hope he gets cut.”
Jones has no problem getting rebooked against Patrick, but he is confident the Brazilian won’t show up to fight him.
“I’ll happily knock him out, but the guy just doesn’t want to turn up,” Jones said. “He cost me I don’t know how much money by taking half my purse in the first fight that I dominated. And in this fight, I prepared again for the fight, they pushed me back, which cost me money, and when I managed to fight, he pulled out on the last second possible. He was still putting posts up that he was fighting five days out even though he pulled out on a 10-day notice. The guy had no intentions to fight. I just hope he gets cut.”
