Derrick Lewis likes Tai Tuivasa, but he’s not doing a shoey at UFC 271: ‘My feet smell cheesy’

Don’t expect Derrick Lewis to go anywhere near his shoe after UFC 271.

In a battle between two of the most charismatic and hard-hitting heavyweights, Lewis (26-8 MMA, 17-6 UFC) vs. Tai Tuivasa (14-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) is expected to be all kinds of fun.

When the co-main event matchup was announced, fans were excited for various reasons, but unfortunately they won’t get to see Lewis do Tuivasa’s signature shoey.

“Yeah, he’s good, man. I like him,” Lewis said in an interview with Fox Sports Australia. “I like Tai, and I really appreciate him knocking out Greg Hardy like he did the last fight. Greg was talking a lot of trash that week, so I appreciate it, but I just don’t like the beer-drinking out of the shoe and all that. What y’all do out there? I don’t like all that. That’s nasty. My feet smell cheesy. I just can’t imagine just another man’s sweat in – I don’t know.”

“I’m a big fan of Derrick, as well,” Tuivasa responded. “I think we’re kinda the same, you know what I mean? We go in there to bang on, and we’re usually the crowd favorites so shout out to Derrick.”
