Matthew Semelsberger wants ‘Rocky IV-style’ fights, eyes matchup with Ian Garry

LAS VEGAS – Matthew Semelsberger has a name in mind for his next opponent.

At UFC Fight Night 203, Semelsberger (10-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) emerged victorious over a previously-undefeated A.J. Fletcher in an exciting preliminary bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. After 15 minutes, all three judges scored the second and third rounds in favor of Semelsberger, giving him a unanimous decision win and handing Fletcher (9-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) his first career loss. Afterward, he mentioned he wouldn’t mind throwing down with another undefeated welterweight, Ian Garry.

“I just want challenging fights,” Semelsberger told reporters at the post-fight news conference. “Part of my personality is one that’s like, I would love to go in there and finish it quick, but there’s the other part of me, that like dog side of me, that’s like, ‘No, man. Let’s go knock-out, drag-out.’ Like Rocky 4 style.”

The win over Fletcher marked the second straight for Semelsberger on the heels of a 15-second victory over Martin Sano at UFC 266. He improved to 4-1 in his UFC tenure and plans to be more active after fighting three times in 2021.
