Dana White blasts DWCS fighters, gives just 1 contract

The UFC’s fan-favorite staple, Dana White’s Contender Series, returns to the UFC APEX for 10 weeks of fights. The show was already off to a rocky start when Willian Souza made history by weighing 10 pounds over for his bout with Farid Basharat. He is the heaviest overweight to date for the DWCS franchise.

That bout was obviously canceled.

But the rest of the four fights went on as planned.

The first fight, between Alessandro Costa and Andres Luna Martinetti, started slow but picked up in rounds 2 and 3 to end in a close split decision win that not everyone was on board for.

The second fight between Dennis Buzukja and Kaleio Romero was classic striker versus grappler. The fight when all three rounds and the judges scored heavy on the damage giving Buzukja the unanimous decision win.

The third fight, between Anton “The Pleasure Man” Turkalj and Acácio dos Santos went as was expected. The charismatic Turkalj dominated the Brazilian for three rounds for an easy decision win.

The main event, between Ozzy Diaz vs. Joe Pyfer was a striker’s delight. Pyfer clearly won round one using both his striking and grappling but it was a slick strike in round 2 that dropped Diaz securing Pyfer his win and the first and only finish of the night.
