Julianna Peña: ‘We’re going to see whose ovaries are bigger’

Women’s bantamweight champion Julianna Peña puts her title on the line in a rematch against former titleholder Amanda Nunes in the UFC 277 main event on Saturday.

Nunes is considered to be the greatest female fighter in the promotion’s history, but Peña made ‘The Lioness’ look human in their first fight. Peña forced Nunes to tap out in the second round of their UFC 269 bout in December. Peña considers Nunes and herself as the two best female fighters in the world.

“At the end of the day, Amanda and I are the two best women’s fighters in the world. You’re literally getting the two best fighters in the world that are going to collide on Saturday night,” Peña said during the UFC 277 Media Day on Wednesday.

Peña didn’t make any bold predictions, but does expect to retain the belt on Saturday.

“I can’t tell you that I’m going to pull a rabbit out of the hat. I can just tell you that I’m going to stand there toe-to-toe with the best in the world and I’m going to give my best. We’re going to see who’s ovaries are bigger, and I’m willing to bet that that is mine,” Peña said.

‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ would like to close the chapter on Nunes and continue building her legacy. To do that, she has to defeat Nunes a second time and she’s not taking the task lightly.

“I’m just ready to snuff out this torch. The torch was passed. I snuffed it out. I’m ready to close this chapter, and I’m ready to move forward,” she said.

“It’s hard for me to predict what’s in the future and what’s going to happen. I just want to live presently in the moment. Presently, I have a bigger, faster, stronger, new gym, better mental state Amanda that is going to be facing me on Saturday and I don’t take that lightly. I take it very seriously,” Peña said.
