Leon Edwards knocked out Kamaru Usman late in the UFC 278 main event on Saturday to capture the welterweight championship.
Edwards won the opening round on all three judges scorecards and became the first opponent ever to take Usman down inside the octagon.
Judges Sal D’Amato, Derek Cleary, and Chris Lee all scored Usman winning rounds 2, 3 and 4. Heading into the final frame Usman had a comfortable lead. That all came crashing down with a left head kick at the 4:04 mark of the fifth round.
