Randi Field ‘would love’ for Bellator to open women’s strawweight division

Randi Field is hoping Bellator makes an addition to its divisions.

The Bellator prospect would like to see the promotion open up strawweght as she feels she’s best suited for 115 pounds. Field (3-1 MMA, 1-1 BMMA) has competed at flyweight for Bellator and returns this Friday to fight at a catchweight of 120 pounds.

She takes on Ashley Cummins in the preliminary portion of  Bellator 293, which takes place at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, Calif. The main card airs on Showtime following prelims on MMA Junkie.

“Absolutely, I would love to fight at 115,” Field said at Wednesday’s Bellator 293 media day. “Yes, and I also find the training camps to be less stressful. When I’m fighting at 125, I’m always constantly trying to gain weight. I’ll go take a poop a or take a poop, and I’m back at Square 1. So yeah, 115 I’m definitely good at it, and I’m very strong for the division.”

Bellator currently only has titles and rankings for women’s featherweight and flyweight. They’ve had strawweight bouts before, but with no formal division.

As far as the fight itself, Field expects to finish her opponent and start 2023 on the right foot.

“I think her and I are going to do well together, and we’re going to have a lot of exchanges,” Field said. “I just think that I’m going to have too much aggression and too much passion for everything that I’ve done to get here.”
