Start time is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on DAZN, with Haney and Prograis making their ring walks around 11:15 p.m. ET this evening.

It all goes down later tonight (Sat., Dec. 9, 2023) live on DAZN from inside Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif., as WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight champion Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KO) moves up to challenge Regis Prograis (29-1, 24 KO) for the WBC super lightweight title. The action will begin streaming on DAZN at 8 p.m. ET.

What’s Hot:

This is one of the last premier boxing matches of the year and for good reason. While Prograis is a proven veteran who has finished four out of his last five trips to the boxing ring by way of knockout, Haney is one of the most promising young champions in the sport. For better or worse, this weekend is about him.

The 25-year-old is coming off a key victory over Vasyl Lomachenko earlier this year. Having defeated George Kambosos Jr. in back-to-back fights to become the first undisputed lightweight champion in the four-belt era it was important for Haney to beat another top name. Lomachenko was that guy and the victory launched Haney to another level in his career. He’ll try to prolong that rise tonight in front of his home crowd.

The matchup itself is a true banger, but when you mix in the animosity between both fighters this weekend’s clash hits an entirely new level. Remember, Prograis launched an explicit tirade against Haney and the California fans on Friday. It was an intense scene and something that should fuel both fighters entering Saturday’s main event.

What’s Not:

While this is a sensational matchup on paper there hasn’t been much buzz surrounding Haney vs. Prograis. Boxing is coming off a Ryan Garcia fight weekend and it seems like a lot of steam has been lost heading into tonight’s fight card in California. Even with a wild moment at Friday’s weigh ins when Prograis verbally attacked Haney and the fans in attendance this fight appears to be stuck in gear.

Luckily, there isn’t much else going on tonight in the world of combat sports. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will return to stage UFC Vegas 83, but that event is lacking serious star power. If the early fights on the Haney vs. Prograis undercard deliver then more fans could tune in for the main attraction.

How The ‘Prelims’ Look:

Boxing “Prelims” are always hit and miss, but it appears that tonight’s undercard action should deliver as advertised. This is mostly due to the lightweight matchup between undefeated Australia contender Liam Paro and knockout specialist Montana Love, who is coming off a fight in which he was disqualified for throwing his opponent out of the ring.

In addition to Paro vs. Love, the DAZN undercard “Prelims” will feature former Olympic gold medalist Andy Cruz as he makes his second professional boxing appearance. Remember, the Cuban boxer turned in a 140-9 amateur record before turning pro earlier this year. He’s certainly a name on the rise entering 2024.

Besides the lack of promotion surrounding this card it’s still a top-tier attraction on a weekend lacking serious combat power. Haney is the sizeable betting favorite to move up in weight and win another world title, but Prograis packs serious power and never backs away from a dog fight.

Add in the two undercard stars-on-the-rise and this card is almost can’t miss for boxing fans. For MMA fans, it’s worth a watch for sure.
