Oleksandr Usyk shocks the world, beats Tyson Fury by split decision

After much anticipation, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk finally met in the ring and competed in arguably one of the biggest fights in heavyweight boxing history.

The fan-favorites were originally rumored to be fighting in late 2023, but the bout was later scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2024. Tensions built between the two teams as the fight drew closer and fans couldn’t wait to see the titans locks horns, which is exactly what happened earlier tonight.

However, before they met in the center of the ring–and after a great performance by popular American musician J.I.D–both Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk stunned those in attendance with their memorable walkouts ahead of the big fight.

A no-nonsense approach saw Usyk enter the ring sporting his signature emotionless stare. The Ukranian’s team stood beside the boxer and showcased his numerous world championships.

His opponent, Tyson Fury, entered in a more playful manner. ‘The Gypsy King’ looked loose and ready for what is regarded as one of the biggest fights in recent history.

Shortly after Michael Buffer’s iconic introduction of the fighters, the action got underway.

The opening round was slow-paced as both men eased into the fight. The biggest moment of the round came when Usyk landed a huge left hand that got Fury’s attention.

Oleksandr Usyk found some confidence and again connected with a big left to state the second round. Usyk’s best moments of the fight thus far came when he lands the stiff left hand, though Fury found some success to the body.

The third was a much better showing for Tyson Fury. He was able to use his range well, scoring some significant jabs and body shots for the majority of the 3 minutes.

Round four was somewhat of a stalemate as neither fighter took real control. Once again, Fury looked like the standout between the two as the fifth round came around. The Brit displayed excellent body work as Usyk was unable to show any noteworthy offense.

At the halfway point, Tyson Fury began running away with the fight. Despite some phenomenal body work in the earlier rounds, Fury landed his biggest strike of the bout, with a powerful uppercut that wobbled Usyk.

Fury took his foot off the pedal in the seventh, though he did manage to land some big shots. Usyk had his most success of the round in the closing moments.

Oleksandr Usyk needed something big to change the tide of the fight and he secured that with several lefts in the eighth and ninth. A damaging counter strike followed by a barrage rocked Fury and saw him hit the canvas for the eighth time in his career. The round came to an end shortly after Fury recovered from the onslaught.

Usyk began the tenth with the same aggression that he ended the prior round with. After finding some success ‘The Cat’ stopped respecting his opponents game and began pressing forward, landing power punches at will.

The final round was razor-close and any fighter could walk away with his hand raised. In the end, it was Oleksandr Usyk who edged out the victory over Tyson Fury.
