So much for Till getting three or four fights in this year.

Those looking forward to seeing Darren Till’s return to combat sports will have to wait a little longer.

The former UFC welterweight contender’s comeback fight was set to go down July 20th against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on the big Paul vs. Tyson undercard. But with the main event delayed, so is the rest of the card. On a new episode of TalkSport MMA, “The Gorilla” revealed his boxing debut has been pushed to November 15th.

“I spoke to my coach yesterday and was like, ‘Mate, how much more motivation to stay in the gym?’” Till said. “I’ve been in the gym 18 months now literally just working on the craft of boxing. One of the biggest cards in the last decade. Obviously all the motivation was there and everything, and just woke up one day and I read the news like all of you.”

“That’s what it looks like, it looks like November now,” Till confirmed. “I am under contract with Most Valuable Promotions, which is Jake Paul and his team. So that’s what it’s looking like. It’s just one of them. I don’t know where I’m getting the motivation from to stay in this gym.”

“But at least there’s a date there now and there’s still a goal.”

The original goal was three or four fights in 2024, but that’s clearly out the window now. No wonder Darren is feeling de-motivated.

Till hasn’t fought since a December 2022 loss to Dricus Du Plessis, which has aged well since the South African fighter went on to beat Robert Whittaker and win the middleweight title. But rather than stay in the UFC and keep grinding, Darren elected to leave the UFC to heal his knees up and chase some big money boxing bouts against influencers.

As he’s learning, that world is fickle and there aren’t as many big money opportunities as you might think. Now he’s stuck waiting until the end of the year in hopes a 55 year old Mike Tyson can survive a training camp and step into the ring.
