Ian Machado Garry wants to prove a point.

UFC 303’s big main event between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler might be in jeopardy, but all the other fights appear to be safe for now. Among the bunch is the intriguing stylistic clash between the top Welterweight contenders, Garry and Michael “Venom” Page.

A Light Heavyweight tilt between the former champion, Jamahal Hill, and Carlos Ulberg is currently slated to be UFC 303’s co-main event. While that match up isn’t set for five rounds, nor is Garry’s. The undefeated 14-0 Irish star would like a little more time if possible.

“I just finished a really good training session,” Garry said on Instagram (h/t MMA Junkie). “I’m feeling fresh, I’m feeling ready, I just did five rounds. I’m going to get on the phone to Hunter [Campbell] and the UFC today and let’s push for a five-round co-main for this. Let’s push it. This is a fight that we are representing the Irish, ‘MVP,’ get ready for 25 minutes of pain.”

Garry has fought five rounds once in his career, which came when he won the vacant Cage Warriors title over Jack Grant by unanimous decision in June 2021. The fight was Garry’s last before he signed with UFC. He’s since won seven consecutive bouts inside the Octagon with his most recent coming at UFC 298 against Geoff Neal in February 2023.

Page, on the other hand, has fought in three five round fights in his 24-fight career (22-2). All of which came during his time in Bellator. “MVP” won one of the three, defeating Paul Daley via an anti-climactic unanimous decision in February 2019.
