Alexa Grasso would ‘love’ to share Noche UFC event at Sphere with Conor McGregor

LAS VEGAS – Alexa Grasso hopes the Noche UFC card begins filling out with some big names at the top, including hers, of course.

The event taking place on Sept. 14 at Sphere in Las Vegas has been hyped up by UFC CEO Dana White as one of the biggest events in the promotion’s history. It will be a celebration of Mexican Independence Day, and UFC women’s flyweight champion Grasso hopes she gets the opportunity to represent her country of Mexico in the first women’s championship trilogy bout against Valentina Shevchenko.

“That’s the plan, that’s the fight that I would like to happen,” Grasso told reporters during a media scrum outside Sphere. “I have to be a part of Noche UFC. How could I not be a part of Noche UFC this year? I just truly hope that she can accept the fight. I mean, it’s good for both of us.”

While not yet official, the bout has been long rumored to take place at the event, which the promotion announced will be labeled Riyadh Season Noche UFC. While it would be a big fight for Grasso and her country, the Mexican champ hopes a few other big stars are added to the event’s lineup.

“I would love to share a card with Conor McGregor,” Grasso said. “I think it could be huge. I mean, our flags our kind of similar, so yeah, it will be amazing to share a card with him.”

With no fights officially announced yet, Grasso is excited about the possibilities of what could come together. If, for some reason, the Shevchenko trilogy doesn’t come together, Grasso says she will be ready to take on the next fighter in line, Manon Fiorot.

Beyond her own matchup and hoping McGregor ends up on the card, Grasso would like to see other big names like Max Holloway or Sean O’Malley make the card, too. So much so that she’s been hitting up UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard daily asking for updates for the event.

“I’m asking every day!” Grasso exclaimed. “I’m asking every day! You know Mick Maynard, (he’s) like, ‘Alexa, come on!’ I’m like, ‘Mick, please! Please tell me what’s going on!’ He says, ‘Calm down, calm down.’ So, I’m just breathing, I’m just waiting and training. That’s the most important thing that I have to do. It’s going to be a huge card, I’m pretty sure of that.”
