Bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley headlines this weekend’s UFC 306 event at the Sphere in Las Vegas against top contender Merab Dvalishvili. In the lead-up to the fight, O’Malley has been doing a lot of interviews with various outlets.
On Monday, “Suga” appeared on the Pound 4 Pound podcast with Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo. His appearance was brief. After praising Usman and trolling Cejudo, O’Malley abruptly ended the interview.
“Boys, you guys know that I’m a very, very busy man. I’ll keep this short,” O’Malley said after being introduced by Usman. “I came here for two reasons. One, praise you Kamaru. You’re an absolute legend, and two, Henry, how did you let Aljo (Aljamain Sterling) take you down so easy?
“You’re welcome,” O’Malley said before abruptly disconnecting from the podcast.
Cejudo lost the bantamweight title to Sterling at UFC 288 in May 2023. O’Malley finished Sterling in the first round at UFC 293 in August 2023 to capture the 135-pound championship.
“Hey, he got us Kamaru. He didn’t just do that to me. He did that to us,” Cejudo said when O’Malley exited the show. “He’s trolling us. He came on here just to do that.”
If O’Malley loses to Dvalishvili on Saturday, Cejudo believes he and the champion could be on a collision course to meet inside the octagon.
“Once he loses to Merab, because I do believe he’s going to lose to Merab, the next fight that’s up is me and him,” Cejudo said. “The only dude that’s really left in the whole division is myself. The next best thing is going to be me.”
