Hoping to fight his way to another UFC title opportunity, Jose Aldo believes Sean O’Malley would be a perfect opponent for him in the near future.
While retirement from mixed martial arts looked set in stone for him just two years ago, the Brazilian legend has since successfully returned to the cage. The 38-year-old will celebrate reaching the two-decade landmark in the sport when he competes at UFC 307 this weekend.
After his hiatus from MMA, Jose Aldo found success in the boxing world. Unbeaten in three bouts inside the squared circle, Aldo detailed why he chose to put his career in the ring on hold to pursue another shot at UFC gold.
“My dream has always been to be a champion in the UFC,” Aldo told Brett Okamoto. “Let’s go back a long time in the past, ever since I saw Pedro Rizzo fighting, I [wanted] to be a champion in the UFC.”
Aldo later stated his interest in meeting Sean O’Malley in the octagon in a potential title eliminator at 135.
“The two of us, myself and Sean, are two people that carry, we have weight. There’s a cache to what we do and I think it will be two great names in the division.”
“It would be a great fight and obviously I would accept it.”

Before any fan-favorite clash between Jose Aldo and Sean O’Malley can unfold, Aldo must get his hands raised at UFC 307.
The combat sports icon will meet the rising Mario Bautista on Saturday night. Bautista has been on a tear in the division, claiming six straight victories and knocking down fellow prospects in the process.
Now 31 years old, Bautista is looking to break into the top 10 at bantamweight and usher himself toward a title shot.
