‘Hammer’ Calls for ‘Bones’ Rematch To Settle DQ Loss Once And For All!

Matt Hamill is tired of people saying his win over Jon Jones should be overturned, stating the only fair way to sort things is with a fight.

Really, Matt, still?

If Jon Jones wants to erase his “loss” to Matt Hamill back in 2009, the best to ever do it will have to do it in the cage against “The Hammer” himself.

Recent changes made to the Unified Rules of mixed martial arts (MMA) by the Association of Boxing Commission have removed a rule barring downward elbows from “12-6,” a ridiculous addition instituted when the sport was young because officials were afraid fighters would smash skulls open like a karate fighter breaking bricks.

That nonsense rule is the sole reason Jones doesn’t hold an undefeated record, and fans want to see the disqualification loss to Hamill removed now that the reason for it is gone. Of course, that’s not really how it works. Indeed, downward elbows were illegal 15 years ago when Jones used them on Hamill, so the disqualification stands in the eyes of commissions.

But, if Jones wants to avenge the loss, Hamill — who has been retired from the sport for more than six years — is here for it.

“Let’s cut this chase… Dana White — I know you’re desperate to get Jon Jones an undefeated record,” Hamill wrote on Instagram. “I see how you want to profit from that! Is also why you bail him out of all the other things…

“How about a rematch?!” he continued. “I’ll be happy to fight him for a heavyweight title. If I beat him, I want a UFC belt. Let me know if Stipe Miocic backs out. I’ll take short notice, just remember: he already lost to me!”

Yeah, okay …

Hamill, 47, finished his active career with a split decision win over Chris Birchler in Maverick MMA 6 back in 2018. Considering his age, inactivity and current popularity we give this fight a zero percent chance of happening.

But, we admire Matt’s gusto in pushing back against Jones’ supporters and their desire to re-write history.

No smart?
