[Official] State of the Sub: February 2020

Hi ratfucks, it’s been a while since we’ve had one of these so please take a minute to read the post below then sound off in the comments!

tl;dr:

  1. New mods!

  2. No more NSFW tags on posts.

  3. Regular Threads Update.

  4. Regional Rundown – a (re)introduction.

  5. Approved Submitter vote coming up, register your interest.

  6. Repetitive Fight Clips.

  7. Open mat.

1. New Moderators

We have added a bunch of new moderators! Some of them have been around for a while, but please join us in roasting the new team members: /u/GrabakaFlockaFlame, /u/FuckingPunkDude, /u/shittymorph, and /u/sirvalkyerie.

We are also open to suggestions of creative awful flairs to give them.

2. NSFW tags on spoiler posts

We are considering doing away with NSFW tags on spoiler posts. This was initially introduced before Reddit had a proper spoiler feature, and as such our use of the nsfw tag has kind of become obsolete.

If you post spoilers to our subreddit you will see – going forward – that posts are no longer automatically flagged as nsfw.

3. Regular Weekly Posts

Our weekly recurring posts are as follows:

  • Moronic Monday

  • Technique & Training Tuesday

  • Wednesday: [None]

  • Thursday: Flair Bets

  • Friday: Betting Thread, and pre-event threads

  • Saturday: [Event threads]

  • Sunday: Shitpost Sunday

Changes have been highlighted. We’ve moved Flair Bets to Thursdays, Betting discussion to Fridays, and moving Thursday’s Photoshop thread to Sunday to get all your post-event shitposting in.

4. Regional Rundown

Our “Regional Rundown” is a monthly spotlight on a new up-and-coming MMA star, voted on and written up by you guys! We’ve had two (John Gotti III, and Jack Della Maddalena) thus far and would love to see more interaction with future ones. Keep on the lookout for our next one in March, which is coming along nicely 🙂

If you are a coach or part of a gym, let us know of any up and comers. We welcome input on this list.

5. Approved Submitters – voting opens soon

We intend to hold an Approved Submitter vote in the next few weeks.

“Approved submitters” are exempt from our rule against self-promotion, and are therefore free to post their own content to our subreddit. Content must still comply with all other /r/mma rules.

If you:

  • Create original MMA-related content.

  • Are known in /r/mma (or the wider mma community).

  • Would like to be allowed to post your own content here.

Please let us know via modmail and we will include you in the vote. It’s a democratic process decided on by our users (moderators also get a single vote each). If your content here is generally not well-received it would probably be advisable to NOT put your hand up. The votes can be rather brutal, in a “tell us how you really feel” kind of way.

6. Limiting Repetitive Fight Clips

We are planning on introducing a new feature to our community to limit the posting of clips which seem to be posted every other week, like 13 Seconds, or the Barboza/Etim spinning head kick. We will likely have a dedicated announcement post regarding this in the next two weeks, once we’ve nailed down the details of what we’d like to present to you guys.

Open Mat

And that’s pretty much it from us. If you have any issues/questions/concerns or whatever you’d like to raise please let us know in the comments.
