Doo Ho Choi calls for Cub Swanson rematch at UFC on ESPN+ 23 in South Korea

Doo Ho Choi and Cub Swanson engaged in a battle for the ages, and Choi also would love to run it back.

Swanson defeated Choi via unanimous decision at UFC 206, thrilling the fans with an incredible back-and-forth affair that was named 2016 “Fight of the Year.”

And following his unanimous decision win over Kron Gracie this past weekend at UFC on ESPN+ 19 in Tampa, Fla., Swanson said he’d be willing to do it again, as their fight was one of the most special moments of his career.

Upon hearing Swanson’s comments, Choi made his pitch for a rematch on Instagram but said it would have to be in his home country of South Korea, since he won’t be allowed to leave because of military service.

Swanson’s recent fight was amazing and he is a fighter that I have always respected. I came across his recent interview that he believes that we need to have a rematch in which we owe to the fans. I also strongly feel the same but unfortunately I haven’t finished my military duties where it restricts me from flying overseas. Also I understand that he was just fought in UFC Fight Night 161 and that he would need to rest and recover but if him and the UFC can organize a fight in Busan, I guarantee that it will be the craziest fight of 2019!

Choi (14-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) hasn’t competed since his second-round TKO loss to Jeremy Stephens in January 2018. He has earned performance bonuses in four out of his five UFC fights but is coming off of back-to-back losses to Swanson and Stephens.

And he hopes to compete on the UFC on ESPN+ 23 card Dec. 21, which is headlined by the “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung taking on Brian Ortega.

Swanson (26-11 MMA, 11-7 UFC) snapped a four-fight losing streak with the win over Gracie, and they earned a “Fight of the Night” bonus.
