Kevin Lee will return to Lightweight after a one-fight trip to Welterweight to face Gregor Gillespie at the upcoming UFC 244 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Nov. 2, 2019 in New York City.

For “The Motown Phenom,” fighting Gregor will be a chance to break his two-fight skid. That said, it won’t be an easy task, something that’s not lost on Lee, who says accepting a fight against “The Gift” is probably the dumbest thing he could’ve done.

“To be honest with you, this is the dumbest fight I could’ve took,” Lee told theScore. “A guy who’s incredibly tough, he can take a hell of a shot, he can keep coming forward, and he can make a fight really boring, he can make it really frustrating for you.”

Not to mention, Gregor simply doesn’t get tired, making him an all-around dangerous threat to anyone standing across from him. But in true Lee form, he accepted the showdown because he was looking for the toughest challenge available.

“And he’s got a hell of a gas tank, too. So, this is the most dangerous fight I could’ve took. It really don’t make much sense, but I love a challenge, I love doing sh-t like this.”

Gregor is currently undefeated (13-0, 6-0 UFC) earning five stoppages of six fights inside the Octagon, making him one of the most exciting contenders in the 155-pound division. If he can score a win over a former title contender like Lee, it will raise his stock a bit more, and get him closer to bigger matchups.

For Lee, if he can hand Gregor his first defeat, it will show that he is still one of the best 155-pound fighters on the planet, and get him one step closer to a much-desired showdown against division champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov.
