TD Garden in Boston, Mass., hosts a Light Heavyweight crossroads fight this weekend (Fri., Oct. 18, 2019) as former Middleweight champion Chris Weidman attempts to reignite his career against rising prospect Dominick Reyes in UFC on ESPN 6’s main event. “Beantown” will also see a grudge match between Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens, as well as the latest from Greg Hardy against the super-tough Ben Sosoli.

What Went Wrong at UFC Tampa?

Sometimes, guys just get kicked in the head. Max Griffin started slow, but was doing everything I expected him to before taking a shin to the noggin and falling too far behind. Ryan Spann’s efforts minimized the damage, thankfully, but it’s yet another loss.

I wanted to bet on J.J. Aldrich and Miguel Baeza before chickening out, so this week, there’s no second-guessing. Let’s get some raw id out and see what happens.

UFC On ESPN 6 Odds For The Undercard:

Manny Bermudez (-150) vs. Charles Rosa (+130)
Molly McCann (-450) vs. Diana Belbita (+360)
Kyle Bochniak (-135) vs. Sean Woodson (+115)
Boston Salmon (-170) vs. Randy Costa (+150)
Sean Brady (-235) vs. Court McGee (+185)
Kevin Holland (-160) vs. Brendan Allen (+140)
Tanner Boser (-135) vs. Daniel Spitz (+115)

Thoughts: Sean Woodson, Boston Salmon and above all, Brendan Allen, are your keys to victory this Friday evening.

Kyle Bochniak is 2-4 in the Octagon and should be 1-5. That alone makes Woodson appealing, but it’s also worth mentioning that Bochniak lands a paltry 2.60 strikes per minute and has terrible takedown accuracy (less than 20 percent), both worrying stats against a high-volume striker who’s weakest off of his back. On top of that, Woodson has massive edges in height and reach that should allow him to outwork “Crash” without much issue.

Even with a terrible Octagon debut behind him, Salmon is a prospect worth watching, and his massive edge in boxing skill makes this a very winnable fight for him. The only real concern here is Costa’s punching power, which ceases to be a threat after a few minutes, and “The Zohan” is unlikely to land those bombs against a skilled striker thanks to his lack of set ups. Costa hits hard enough to make this a wee bit risky, so you may want to parlay this. Molly McCann gives near even odds in a fight with a very below-average opponent, so go with her.

Allen looks like the best bargain of the whole event. Kevin Holland should be on a two-fight losing streak and gets taken down by pretty much everyone who bothers to try. Allen is the strongest wrestler he’s yet faced, has the cardio to push the pace for all three rounds, and is sufficiently adept with his submissions to make the most of the time he spends on top.

Go all in on “All In.”

Jonathan Pearce (-140) vs. Joe Lauzon (+120)
Maycee Barber (-120) vs. Gillian Robertson (EVEN)
Deron Winn (-115) vs. Darren Stewart (-105)

Thoughts: Maycee Barber has considerable potential at the age of 21, but her wrestling remains a work-in-progress that Robertson looks incredibly well-suited to exploit.

Barber shares some of Paige VanZandt’s issues, namely that she’s overly straightforward and lacks nuance in her takedowns or clinch entries. While I think she’s got a higher ceiling, Robertson looks to be a nightmare match up. “The Savage’s” takedowns and submission shave looked terrific in UFC and Barber’s insane aggression leaves her open to reactive shots.

I really like Robertson here, so bet accordingly.

Though Darren Stewart tends to foul up my bets something fierce, I think Winn can take him. With the Octagon jitters out of the way, I expect a far stronger performance from the Cormier protege, who ostensibly has the skills to outwrestle a man who got taken down eight times two fights ago. Again, Stewart is remarkably adept at dramatic comebacks, but a bit on Winn looks like a win.

Bit of a late-notice addition, as I just finished watching tape, but a bit on Jonathan Pearce could work, too. He’s big, durable and has an excellent gas tank, which seems just the ticket against the current incarnation of Joe Lauzon. Getting battered into submission by Chris Gruetzemacher is a bad look and Pearce looks at least good enough to do the same.
