Highlights! Reyes Destroys Weidman Early In Boston

Thomas Lakes, MMA Fighting

Dominick Reyes continued his Octagon perfection last night (Fri., Oct. 18, 2019) at UFC on ESPN 6 from inside TD Garden in Boston, Mass., when he spoiled former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman’s 205-pound debut with a vicious knockout stoppage just into the first round.

Weidman put early pressure on Reyes as he secured a takedown and work positioning along the fence. The former champ’s efforts didn’t last long as the stronger Reyes pushed him off and separated on the feet. That’s when a quick counter straight left hand by Reyes planted Weidman on the canvas and allowed “Devastator” to land three flush follow-up punches to earn the stoppage.

With this performance, Reyes improves his UFC record to 6-0 while knocking off the biggest name of his career so far. The undefeated contender has looked completely dominant since debuting just 28 months ago, but we don’t know for sure if this knockout win over Weidman will be enough for Reyes to lock down a shot at Jon Jones’ light heavyweight title.
