Jon Jones clearly heard Chris Weidman talking a big game about a future fight prior to Friday’s UFC on ESPN 6 headliner with Dominick Reyes.
After Weidman (14-5 MMA, 10-5 UFC) suffered a first-round TKO loss to Reyes (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) in the light heavyweight main event at TD Garden in Boston, “Bones” decided to take a shot at the former UFC middleweight champ for his unsuccessful 205-pound debut.
Similar to what happened to Luke Rockhold earlier this year, a jump up in weight class came with catastrophic results for a former middleweight champion. Jones (25-1 MMA, 19-1 UFC) made sure to point that out (via Instagram):

The downside of the likes of Weidman and Rockhold moving up to light heavyweight with poor results is that it takes notable fights off the table for Jones. Now the likes of Reyes and Jan Blachowicz are positioned as legitimate potential challenger to his belt, and it’s inarguable those names fault to line his pockets the same way.
The champion, however, doesn’t seem to mind too much.
