Coach Announces Pettis-Cerrone 2, Then Deletes It

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) appears to be working on the rematch between former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis and longtime 155-pound veteran Donald Cerrone, according to “Showtime’s” coach, Duke Roufus.

The head of Roufusport MMA made the announcement today on social media, but then later deleted it, perhaps not realizing that nothing is ever truly gone from the Internet. Including that one photo of me from college but hey, I was young and needed the money.

“It has been a long time in the making,” Roufus wrote. “The UFC offered Pettis a rematch with Cerrone. Donald and Anthony have professionally reached out personally to one another and have agreed to fight each other. We are just waiting on a date to dance.”

Pettis stopped Cerrone by way of brutal body kick in the first round of their UFC on FOX 6 showdown back in early 2013. The victory earned “Showtime” a crack at the lightweight crown, which he captured by submitting Ben Henderson the following August.

A lot has changed between now and then, including weight classes for both combatants. Pettis (22-9) is ranked No. 12 at both lightweight and welterweight, while Cerrone (36-13, 1 NC) holds steady at No. 5 on the 155-pound ladder.
