[Official] Announcement: Hardcore Moderation is now in effect

During Hardcore Moderation the mod team will be cracking down on rule violations and issuing temporary 24 hour (or longer) bans to users violating them. If you have had run-ins with the mod team in the past you will receive a longer ban.

With UFC 244 just around the corner, and shaping up to be pretty wacky, things are going to get pretty busy in /r/mma. This is a good time to get familiar or re-familiarize yourself with our rules.

To be clear: if you want to participate in this subreddit it is on you to know what our rules are, and abide by them. Pay special attention to:

1. Be Civil: A bit of banter is fine, but don’t go too far. Please do not spread salt. We’re all fans here. Wishing death or injury on a fighter is a bannable offense. Fighter bashing based on race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation is also bannable.

3.4. Political and Religious discussions: Posts cannot be inherently political or religious, all posts and discussion threads must fit within the context of professional MMA discussion. Comments which attempt to derail an existing on-topic conversation by turning it into a politically- or religiously-focused argument will be removed without notice.

4. Spoilers: Spoilers are considered any images, videos or discussion threads which may reveal the outcome of a fight. This includes General Discussion. When creating a post, ensure the description (or title) does not reveal the result (i.e. finish, KO, scorecard, defends).

5. Duplicates: Before you post, check the /new queue to see whether it’s already been posted. If an existing discussion is underway, add your post as a comment. This is to avoid ten gifs of one fight. Add your gif to the stickied ‘Alternate Angles’ comment in each fight thread.

6.2. Troll Posts and Troll Accounts: False announcements that fights are off or a fighter is injured will make us ban you.

8. Other Suitable Thread: If there’s a sticky about what you want to post, then don’t create a separate post.

Other things that will get you banned:

  • Wiki edits. They’re not funny.
  • Again, fake news about fights/injuries.
  • Reposting a thread we’ve removed.

If you’re still unclear, feel free to ask here, in our daily General Discussion thread, or message the mod team.

Please don’t take this as us trying to be power hungry and enforcing rules for no reason, we want everyone to be able to enjoy the fights (and shenanigans) and discuss them. We would also like to enjoy these events but its pretty hard when we’re removing hundreds and hundreds of comments/posts that are simple violations. We would appreciate it if you’d help us out by sticking to the rules.

Thanks in advance 🙂 – your /r/mma moderators
