VIDEO | Nate Diaz makes amends with doctor after UFC 244

Many fans are unhappy with the way UFC 244’s Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz main event ended — a doctor stopped the fight due to a Diaz cut — but Diaz himself doesn’t seem to be lingering on the issue. 

“The Doc always fixes me up right here. Thanks a lot, Doc,” Diaz said in a video released by Dr. Gregory Hsu himself.

UFC 244 took place in the World’s Most Famous Arena, Madison Square Garden, which is the home of NBA and NHL franchises New York Knicks and New York Rangers, on Saturday.

During this long-awaited match, Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz delivered a bloody show for the crowd in attendance. Unfortunately, the aforementioned cut signalled the end of the fight. 

During a post-fight interview, Diaz stated that he knew his face would be opened up because of a cut that occurred in his previous fight. He added that he hoped the bout didn’t get stopped because his game plan was to “kick in” during the late rounds.

The cage-side doctor, however, was determined to keep both fighters safe, and stopped the contest.

While Diaz seems to be on good terms with the UFC doctor, he is understandably unhappy with the way the fight ended. Post-fight, he also called for a rematch with Masvidal.

Unfortunately for him, it seems that won’t happen anytime soon, according to UFC boss Dana White.

“Obviously when you put on an event you want a definitive, spectacular finish, things like that,” White said of the stoppage in this Masvidal vs. Diaz fight. “But you don’t get it all the time. Tonight was a big night, it was a good night, and it was a good fight between two tough, durable guys, and these things happen. When the fight first ended I was like, ‘Come on man, you guys didn’t stop the Tyson Fury fight.’ But it wasn’t these guys. It was those guys over in Vegas. I thought the fight should have gone on. Then I just went and saw Nate in the other room (backstage) and I was looking at him and going, ‘Eh, maybe the fight shouldn’t have gone on.’ His eyebrow is flopped over like this, he’s got another cut underneath the eye. It’s really easy for me to say, ‘Oh this is bullsh*t’ while I’m sitting in my comfortable chair on the side of the Octagon and my eyebrow isn’t flipped over my eye. It probably should have been stopped.”
