UFC 244 injuries and medical suspensions for the athletes who competed at “Diaz vs Masvidal” event on Saturday Nov. 2, 2019, from inside Madison Square Garden in New York City., have been released by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) via MMA Fighting.

Leading the way in mandatory sits was event headliner Nate Diaz, who suffered a couple of cuts around his right eye courtesy of Jorge Masvidal fists and elbows (see it again here). In fact, the cuts were deemed so bad that the Octagon-side physician opted to put an end to the bout after three rounds.

Nevertheless, the NYSAC only handed the Stockton slugger a three-month mandatory sit, which will probably be longer if he doesn’t get an immediate rematch against “Gamebred.” Also, Gregor Gillespie landed a similar medical suspension after getting knocked out in the very first round by Ken Lee, the first loss of his mixed marital arts (MMA) career (see it).

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
