With MMA title shot in sight, Bellator 233’s Janay Harding plans to put boxing aside

THACKERVILLE, Okla. – Janay Harding has taken advantage of the terms of her Bellator deal. The promotion allows a number of its athletes, including Harding (5-3 MMA, 2-1 BMMA), to compete in fights outside of the organization.

Since her last walk to the Bellator cage in March, Harding competed in a boxing match in her home country of Australia. It was her fifth pro boxing match to date. However, Harding’s success in MMA has pushed her closer to hanging up her boxing gloves.

Riding back-to-back victories as she enters her Bellator 233 fight against Amanda Bell (6-6 MMA, 2-2 BMMA), Harding is presumably closing in on a title shot.

“That’s why I’d like to put all of my focus into MMA,” Harding told MMA Junkie on Wednesday. “(I’m) on that cusp, and I can see the title very clearly now. I’d say after this win, it’d really put me in a good contention spot.

“Maybe one more fight, and we can really start looking at those contender fights or having those title shots. That would be super positive for me in the division.”

Bellator 233 takes place Friday at WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Okla. The main card airs on Paramount and streams on DAZN following prelims on MMA Junkie.
