Nick Diaz: The ‘BMF’ Title Belongs To Me!

At UFC 244, Jorge Masvidal was crowned the first-ever “BMF” champion after defeating Nate Diaz via doctor’s stoppage following three rounds of action inside Madison Square Garden in New York City (see the highlights here).

And while “Gamebred” has been enjoying the fruits of his labor and the extras that come with winning the $50,000 piece of hardware — such as hanging with “The Rock” and possible shot at the 170-pound strap — there is another man who says he’s the real “baddest mother fucker” in the game.

During a rare interview, welterweight veteran Nick Diaz told ESPN reporter Ariel Helwani that he is the original “BMF” and that title does — and always will — belong to him.

“The BMF, the 170, that’s my belt. But I am not going to get in my brother’s way of taking it, you know what I mean? As far as I’m concerned, that’s my belt,” he said.

“So I’m like, ‘You just fought my baby brother.’ The reason why I am saying that is that he doesn’t got anything to be mad about, he ain’t tripping. We never skipped a beat. I have ups and downs with everybody but never with my brother. We don’t have that issue.”

As far as any issues he has with Jorge, everything seems to be cool between the two camps other than the fact that Nick didn’t appreciate Masvidal’s comments about wanting to baptize his younger brother.

“You want to talk about baptizing my younger brother? That’s on you. I’ve never had nothing disrespectful to say but you don’t talk about baptizing my younger brother,” he said. “So you are already in a fucked position if you fight with me,” said Nick.

“You don’t talk about baptizing my younger brother. That’s my baby brother, you don’t talk like that to no one. So you want to say that, that’s on you. But who knows, ups and downs in life, I can relate to you. That’s why I ain’t mad at you.”

Interestingly enough, Nick was linked to fight Jorge earlier this year at UFC 235. But much to the chagrin of fans, that fight didn’t go down, as Nick says he has no idea how that fight was even teased as nothing was ever official, despite these claims.

Diaz hasn’t competed since early 2015, losing to Anderson Silva at UFC 183. The bout was eventually overturned to a “No Contest” after Silva failed a pre-fight drug test.

As far as a possible return, that doesn’t seem to be in the immediate future for Nick, though UFC could have a big-money fight on its hands if the promotion can somehow manage to book a contest between him and Masvidal.

Not likely.
