According to ESPN’s Brett Okamato, a much-anticipated title fight between current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and No. 1 contender, Tony Ferguson, is close to being finalized.

Per the report, The 155-pound title fight is in line to headline an upcoming pay-per-view (PPV) event on April 18, 2020 in Brooklyn, New York.

Khabib is coming of another dominant win, defeating Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 a few months ago in Abu Dhabi via rear-naked choke (see it) to retain his Lightweight title. The win kept Khabib’s record mint at 28-0, 12-0 UFC.

As for Ferguson, he has also been on an impressive tear of his own, winning 12 straight and 18 of 19 overall. Over his last four fights, “El Cucuy” has defeated Rafael dos Anjos, Kevin Lee, Anthony Pettis and most recently took out Donald Cerrone at UFC 238 this past June.

This will now be the fifth attempt to book a bout between these two talented 155 pounders, as injuries and botched weight cuts has prevented these two men from facing off inside the Octagon four times prior.

White has expressed caution when trying to book this bout a fifth time, but since Ferguson is the only logical opponent for “The Eagle,” rolling the dice on this fight is pretty much the only option.

Khabib was adamant he would never fight in Las Vegas, Nevada after the way Nevada Athletic Commission (NSAC) handled his suspension and fines following the infamous brawl post-UFC 229 with Conor McGregor’s entourage.

And by the looks of it, the champ is sticking to his guns. That said, Brooklyn is also tied to another infamous confrontation between and “Notorious” and Co.

For further confirmation regarding the proposed date, Khabib’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, took to social media to prove that “The Eagle” has already signed his contract.
