White: Conor Wants Khabib If He Wrangles ‘Cowboy’

Conor McGregor will officially make his mixed martial arts (MMA) return on Jan. 18, 2020 to headline UFC 246 against Donald Cerrone in Las Vegas, Nevada. And while that fight is set to go down at Welterweight, “Notorious” still has his eyes on the Lightweight division, in particular a rematch against current division king, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

And if all goes as planned, “Notorious” will be fighting “The Eagle” once again if he can wrangle in “Cowboy” in “Sin City.” That’s according to UFC president Dana White, who tells Jim Rome “Notorious” want to make a quick turnaround after UFC 246.

“What Conor wants to do is, he wants to get this fight under his belt, and if he beats ‘Cowboy,’ he wants to turn around as quickly as possible and fight Khabib.”

Of course, there are several factors that have to line up perfectly before that ever happens. For starters, Conor has to wait and see how Khabib vs Tony Ferguson plays out in April.

Should Ferguson dethrone Khabib, then Justin Gaethje could be in line for a world title fight. Obviously, Justin is in the same position if Khabib wins, but he and his management team will really have to work overtime in order to sway White and Co. to give him the bout instead of Conor.

Before all of that, however, Conor has to leave Las Vegas with a victory, and White says his biggest star is truly in a must-win situation.

“He’s at the point of his career right now where a in is a must and he is taking it very serious. We actually talked yesterday and he is in great shape, ready to roll and every excited about this fight,” ended White.

Conor had previously gone on record saying he intends to fight three times in 2020, as he is also eying showdown against either Jorge Masvidal or a trilogy fight against Nate Diaz at 170 pounds.
