Jessica Eye wants to put UFC 245 weight issue behind her after upset of Viviane Araujo

LAS VEGAS – Jessica Eye beat Viviane Araujo with a unanimous decision Saturday on the preliminary card at UFC 245 in Las Vegas.

Eye on the fight’s key moment

“It feels really good to get back in the win column. Moving my camp was a big deal in me winning this fight. Obviously, I’m coming off that loss that hindered some things, but I knew if I could go out here and do everything that they’ve been teaching me, then it would all come together and work. I think everyone got to see me as a different fighter here tonight, and most importantly my coaches got to see me show off everything they’ve been doing for me and that means the most.”

Eye on working through an injury

“I had a lot to prove coming in here. I was really hard on myself for a while, and then I had a really bad back injury. So it took a lot to come out of that. One person, besides my coaches, that made a big difference was Bo Sandoval from the UFC (Performance Institute). He is an incredible human being and spent endless time with me to help get my back and body strong again. He stuck beside me and constantly reminded me that I’m Jessica Eye and one of the best of the world, which helped me so much.”

Eye on what she wants next

“I just want to have some time to hang out now and be healthy. Obviously I had some (weight) issues coming into this week, and I’m not proud of that. But I’m going to leave all of it in 2019 and just move on and take on 2020.”
