White: Covington Should Fight Woodley Next

Whether or not Colby Covington is going to have his jaw wired shut, thanks to an injury suffered in his UFC 245 loss to Kamaru Usman last weekend in Las Vegas, could determine whether or not “Chaos” fights Tyron Woodley his next time out.

Either way, UFC President Dana White, likes that match up.

“I’d love to do him and Woodley next,” White said during the post-fight press conference (watch it here). “That would be a fun fight, but if he has a broken jaw, he ain’t going to be around for a minute. After a war like this, he’s going to have to go rest, take care of himself for a while and then we’ll see what he wants to do.”

Covington was angling for a fight against Woodley earlier this year; however, the promotion opted to go with Usman for UFC 235 and “The Nigerian Nightmare” captured the crown with a five-round unanimous decision win, in what was a completely one-sided affair.

With no title fight on the horizon and Usman playing keep away, Covington opted to keep his name in the headlines by any means necessary. That includes several high-profile confrontations with White that now appear to be water under the bridge.

“I don’t have a problem with him,” White continued. “I don’t have a problem with Covington. Listen, I’ve dealt with his type a million times in the last 20 years. You can tell he’s not happy that tonight did not go as he planned. He came out with a game plan, whatever the hell he had going on in his mind that he was going to do or whatever was going to happen and Usman stomped all over that.”

What Usman stomps on next remains to be seen, but these two are definitely in the running.
