Drake compares himself to Nate Diaz while discussing Pusha T beef

Full disclosure: I am not up to speed on current – or even recent – beefs in hip-hop, but apparently Drake has been involved in his fair share through the years, which includes feuding with the likes of Jay-Z, Kanye West, Meek Mill, The Weeknd, and Pusha T.

Full disclosure again: Pusha T is the only person from that list I’d never heard of before today, but he’s central to this blog post.

Come to find out, Pusha T last year released a diss track aimed at Drake, titled “The Story of Adidon,” in which he alleges that the rumor of Drake having a child with French porn star Sophie Brussaux is true.

Consider all of that and then fast forward to Wednesday, Christmas Day: Rap Radar released a 2-hour interview with Drake, during which he reflects on past beefs and compares himself to, of all people, UFC star Nate Diaz.

Here’s what he had to say:

“Like I said, this is a sport at the end of the day, and you know from a very early point that I’ve never shied away from defending myself. And I’m also sometimes eager to engage if I feel that you want to be slick or be offensive behind the scenes. I might choose to address it in music. And, you know, that was how I ended myself up in the Pusha situation, which, you know, some of my favorite fighters in the world … take a guy like Nate Diaz. You look at his record. It might not look like the craziest record, but he’s still one of my favorite fighters. He’s still a dog. That’s just the sport of fighting. Somebody’s gonna catch you at some point, unless you’re Floyd (Mayweather) pretty much. But for the rest of us, you’re gonna get rocked one time by something you didn’t expect. So that’s just how I chalk that situation up.”

What does this mean? I turned to MMA Junkie’s Farah Hannoun for an explanation, and here’s what she shared:

1. Drake never has responded to Pusha T’s diss track.
2. Since Drake never responded, he compared himself to Diaz “in the sense that he can take an L but is still a gangster or whatever.”

Interesting. So being gangster is a state of mind and about how you’re perceived more than anything? I’d agree with that mostly. Win or lose, Diaz is considered a gangster no matter what.

Guess Drake’s comparison (sort of) makes sense.
