Jon Jones and Dominick Reyes’ bickering will not stop

When UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and Dominick Reyes sat on stage together at the UFC 247 news conference earlier this month, it was clear that Jones was irritated by his next challenger.

Nothing has changed since, and that’s evident in the way the two men interact on social media.

Take this past weekend, for instance. Reyes, who was a standout defensive back at Stony Brook University, sent out this tweet:

The NFL didn’t materialize because it simply was not my destiny, I’m living my destiny http://rt.now !

No harm, no foul. Nothing wrong with a guy tweeting about his past failure to reach the NFL to motivate himself for the upcoming biggest fight of his life. It’s not trash talk.

And yet, Jones saw this tweet and couldn’t let it be.

Keep telling yourself that buddy, whatever it takes to get you through camp. I don’t want no excuses after this

Reyes’ response to that? This tweet of a GIF with Jones’ face:

The bickering ended there for now, but you know it will start up again.

There’s no question that Jones vs. Reyes is a compelling fight, with the undefeated Reyes being a tall southpaw who matches up well with Jones on paper. As for the trash talk that’s sure to keep up until they fight on Feb. 8 in Houston, it won’t quite measure up.
