Diaz Would Get Boxed Up, Knocked Out By Poirier

Longtime Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight veteran, Nate Diaz, was trying to get some attention on social media earlier this week now that mixed martial arts (MMA) fans are abuzz with the pending return of Conor McGregor.

And just as quickly as he spoke up, Dustin Poirier shut him down.

Diaz was expected to fight Poirier at the UFC 230 pay-per-view (PPV) event back in Nov. 2018; however, problems on both sides (including this untimely injury) led to the dissolution of their 155-pound showdown.

Poirier (25-6, 1 NC) would move on to beat Max Holloway at UFC 236 the following spring, before coming up empty against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242 late last year. As for Diaz (20-12), he returned with a unanimous decision win over Anthony Pettis at UFC 241, then got shut down by Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244 for the “BMF” title in New York.

Regardless of how things turned out, it sounds like “The Diamond” is still confident he would prevail, if and when the promotion ever decides to rebook their lightweight grudge match.

One that would not see the judges’ scorecards.

Diaz, not surprisingly, has yet to respond.
