Injured Condit Expected Back In 2020

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Carlos Condit has not seen the inside of the Octagon for over a year and recently had his UFC return pushed back even further, thanks to a detached retina suffered ahead of his since-canceled Mickey Gall fight at UFC on ESPN 7.

Considering the “Natural Born Killer” is mired in a dreadful five-fight losing streak and is just 2-8 dating back to 2012, he could probably use the time off. But according to his manager, Abe Kawa, Condit is expected to return in in 2020.

“He’ll be okay,” Kawa told BJPENN.com. “I don’t want to say what happened, or didn’t happen, but he will absolutely be okay. It’s a common injury, so it’s nothing crazy. He’ll be fine. That’s one guy that is born ready to fight. He’s good. He’ll be back, ready to fight. He’ll be back in 2020.”

Condit (30-13) already announced on Instagram that his retina was detached, so I’m not sure what all the mystery is about from his manager. Either way, the former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) welterweight champion has some work to do.

Not only does Condit remain unranked at 170 pounds, he’s going to turn 36 in April, so the clock is ticking in terms of his UFC comeback. It should be noted that Gall remains unbooked after his UFC Norfolk bout was canceled earlier this month.
