Illegal Stream Backfires On UFC Pirate

Well, that was awkward.

Looks like one illegal streamer didn’t want to pay for the UFC 246 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which took place last Sat. night (Jan. 18, 2020) in Las Vegas, Nevada. I can understand his (or her) temptation, as a lot of mixed martial arts (MMA) fans — both causal and hardcore — were only interested in the Conor McGregor vs. Donald Cerrone main event.

And $65 ain’t cheap, especially just a few weeks removed from the holidays.

But his decision to share his Twitch stream with the rest of the world ended up backfiring when the live feed broadcast an embarrassing text message, forcing the “Skarrsworld” account to pull the plug and tend to his personal matters— which sound pretty serious based on the two sentences we got.

“Denzel pressed charges on you so if you come around you’re getting […] until court day. Give your uncle the house key now I’m coming to pick […]”

UFC has been battling online pirates for years with varying degrees of success and as the technology gets more sophisticated, so do the people who use it. Simply put, it’s unlikely the illegal practice will ever be wiped out completely and many combat sports fans operate on the honor system, for better or worse.

As for McGregor, he finished Cerrone in less than a minute and is expected to make his Octagon return sooner, rather than later. His opponent, however, remains to be seen as everyone tries to jump on the “Notorious” money train.
