VanZant: Broken Screw Hole Behind Latest Setback

Fans of Paige VanZant, affectionately known as “FanZants,” were disappointed to learn that “12 Gauge” was once again injured and bounced from a UFC fight, this time against Amanda Ribas at the upcoming UFC Brasilia event inside Nilson Nelson Gymnasium on March 14 in Brazil.

Turns out the same arm that has been giving her problems ever since she shattered it against Jessica Rose-Clark back in 2018 was once again the culprit, with a broken screw hole compromising her permanent arm plate and pushing her Octagon return back to May, or perhaps even later.

“Yes, I fractured my arm again,” VanZant wrote on Instagram. “No, this isn’t the end of my story. This is a very small fracture and will only take 6-8 weeks to heal. This is the second time I broke through a screw hole where my plate in my arm is, third break in a third spot. I know I need to adjust my training now that I have a permanent plate and screws in there. I will make those adjustments and I will return successfully just as I have before.”

The VanZant team came under fire for allowing “12 Gauge” to continue fighting even after learning she broke her arm (more on that drama here). The bone failed to heal or show any progress in the weeks that followed, leading to a more “serious surgery.”

VanZant (8-4) was last seen taking a submission victory over Rachael Ostovich at UFC Brooklyn roughly one year back. Her next fight could be her last, at least inside the Octagon, as the former “Dancing with the Stars” finalist has been vocal about her lower-than-expected compensation.
