Cody Brundage predicting another victory over Eric Lozano in LOC 7 title fight

When it comes to his debut year in 2019, light heavyweight Cody Brundage doesn’t have much to complain about.

Over the course of the last eight months of the year, Brundage averaged a fight every other month, winning all four of his bouts with finishes in nearly all of them.

“I thought it was pretty great,” Brundage told MMAWeekly.com. “I went 4-0. I stayed pretty much as active as I wanted to. I wanted to have five in my first year, but I had four, so I got pretty close to it.

“I got three finishes. I got my first title. So I had a stellar first year as a pro and achieved nearly everything I wanted to.”

One of the reasons Brundage feels that he’s had such a good start is the fact that rather than focus too much on what his opponent does while in training, he spends his time making sure his game is as good as it can be instead.

“I don’t really do specific camps for people,” said Brundage. “I think you eventually have to do that when you’re fighting the best people in the world, but at this point in my career there’s nobody that I go out and fight my style of fight that I can’t beat.

“I don’t have to worry too much about their ability, as long as I’m doing what I’m good at.”

This Friday in Grand Rapids, Mich., Brundage (4-0) will put his record and title on the line when he rematches Eric Lozano (13-16) in the 205-pound championship co-main event of Lights Out Championship 7.

“I definitely take things from the first fight (last December),” Brundage said. “It was a pretty dominant victory for myself, so it’s about how I replicate the same thing, and maybe do a little more damage on top and get him out of there.

“I finished every single one of my fights other than this one, so there’s a couple things I need to fine tune to get him out of there. I’ve just got to take it to him again.”

For Brundage, there’s a bit of a path he wants to take in 2020, but the stones are set so that he can make adjustments to it as he goes along throughout the year.

“There’s a bit of a roadmap for sure, but it’s not that strict,” said Brundage. “With Contender Series, short-notice opportunities with the UFC, all the bigger promotions like Bellator and the PFL, there are so many opportunities now that it’s hard to set a roadmap.

“For me, someone who likes to stay active, if I plan ahead I want to get five fights, I don’t want to frustrate myself by setting goals with a strict roadmap. I want 2020 to go just like 2019 did, if not better.”
