ONE: ‘Warrior’s Code’ Preview (Pt. 1)

ONE: “Warrior’s Code” is set for Istora Senayan in Jakarta this Friday. The event is headlined by a Muay Thai title fight pitting Petchmorrakot Petchyindeeacademy against Detrit Sathiangym for the inaugural featherweight belt.

The card is stacked with Indonesian fighters and features three former One Pride MMA champions. There is also an intriguing middleweight bout pitting two top contenders together as Leandro Ataides faces Reinier de Ridder.

Meanwhile former featherweight champion Marat Gafurov moves up to lightweight to face the undefeated Iuri Lapicus. Here’s my preview of the first six fights:

Demi Yulianto vs. Antonis Muyak (Featherweight)

Both fighters are making their professional debuts and are unknown quantities.

Egi Rozten vs. Fajar (Flyweight)

Egi Rozten (2-3) is coming off back to back stoppage losses. The Indonesian looks a little short of the level required to remain on the ONE Championship roster long term.

Fajar (3-1) hasn’t fought in nearly two years. He won the One Pride MMA bantamweight champion in 2018 but hasn’t seen any action since.

Muay Thai: Andy Howson vs. Josh Tonna (Strawweight)

Andy Howson is the cousin of ONE Super Series star Liam Harrison. He is a former WBC bantamweight champion but is coming out of retirement for this contest, and has a stoppage loss to Joseph Lasiri on his record.

Josh Tonna beat Lasiri by decision but it was a real back and forth affair. The Australian will have youth on his side here, he’s probably a decade younger than Howson.

Muay Thai: Taiki Naito vs. Savvas Michael (Flyweight)

Taiki Naito is a former Shoot Boxing champion who has won both his ONE Super Series bouts to date. He doesn’t appear to have much Muay Thai experience and is going up an opponent who is fighting out of one of Thailand’s top gyms.

Savvas Michael made a huge impression on his ONE Championship debut, stopping former Lumpinee champion Singtongnoi Por Telakun. He is coming back from a nasty looking injury but is booked to face Seksan Or Kwanmuang later this month, which gives an indicaiton of how highly he is rated in Thailand.

Abro Fernandes vs. Eko Priandono (Flyweight)

This fight pits together two Indonesian with very impressive records. Abro Fernandes (8-2) is 1-2 for ONE Championship but pushed Gary Mangat all the way, dropping a close decision to the Canadian.

Eko Priandono (6-1) is making his promotional debut. Like Fernandes, he was a One Pride MMA bantamweight champion before signing with ONE Chamoionship.

Sunoto vs. Yang Fei (Catchweight)

Sunoto (11-7) is one of the most experienced Indonesian fighters on the ONE Championship roster. He’s fought 16 times for the promotion but has consistently come up short against medium to top tier opponents.

It is unclear whether or not Fei Yang (3-4) falls into that category. He dropped a decision to Muhammad Aiman on his promotional debut in 2017, Sunoto lost to the same opponent in the same manner last year.

The entire ONE: “Warrior’s Code” fight card will be available to view live and free in some territories using the newly launched app which you can download here.
