Remembering Kevin Randleman: the final interview
Kevin “The Monster” Randleman passed away four years ago on February 11. He was 44 years of age.
Kevin wasn’t the winningest fighter in MMA history, but he certainly was one of the most colorful. Having become a UFC heavyweight champion competing with the likes of Bas Rutten, Randy Couture, Maurice Smith, and Chuck Liddell, Kevin’s star shone brightest during his stint with the Japanese organization Pride FC.
Fighting under the Pride banner, Kevin was in his element, defeating the likes of Mirko Cro Cop and facing everyone from Kazushi Sakuraba to Rampage Jackson to Fedor Emelianenko. He was a massive fan favorite in Japan.
MMAWeekly.com executive editor Scott Petersen interviewed Kevin at the World MMA Awards in Las Vegas on Friday, February 5, 2016. At the time, nobody knew that it would be the last time that we’d get to hear from him.
Kevin passed away the following week, on Feb. 11, at just 44 years of age, following complications from pneumonia.
In the interview, Kevin touched on all the hot topics of the day, including Conor McGregor, Holly Holm, Super Bowl 50, his pick for the next President of the Untied States, and more.
But most poignantly, Kevin, who was joined by his wife, Elizabeth, spoke about his family, his children, and an upcoming book about his life, Making of the Monster.
