Cris Cyborg, Cecilia Braekhus spark up interest for boxing match, Eddie Hearn chimes in

Cris Cyborg may finally get her wish to compete in a boxing ring.

Newly-crowned Bellator featherweight champion Cyborg collected another 145-pound title when she finished Julia Budd at Bellator 238, becoming the first fighter in MMA history to win championships in four major promotions.

Already with one of the most decorated careers in women’s MMA history, Cyborg would be making even more history if she ever stepped into a boxing ring. She once sported a “Cyborg vs. Braekhus 2019” T-shirt in 2018, campaigning for a fight with undefeated boxing world champion Cecilia Braekhus.

And Cyborg has now renewed focus on the contest by taking to Twitter to spark up interest in a potential fight with Braekhus in a rather sarcastic way, which ended up generating quite a quick response.

“We tried to make this fight in 2019,but was told to wait. @criscyborg wanted a boxing match first. If that is not the case anymore than let us know,we are here and ready to make this historical fight #allthebelts”

Now that Cyborg is signed with Bellator, there is certainly an increased possibility in a boxing match, considering the promotion’s willingness to co-promote. Cyborg suggested July as a potential date, tagging her manager Audie Attar, who recently signed superstar boxing legend Manny Pacquiao.

And if there’s one man who knows what it takes to cross over into the world of boxing, it’s Attar, who had his star client Conor McGregor make history in 2017, when he took on undefeated boxing great, Floyd Mayweather.

July works for me. @AudieAttar can handle the rest.”

“July works for me, too,” Braekhus responded.

Even famed boxing promoter Eddie Hearn chimed in.

With this verbal agreement in place, we may be one step closer to finally seeing someone from women’s MMA crossover to boxing. UFC dual-champ Amanda Nunes and boxing champ Claressa Shields have also gone back-and-forth regarding a potential fight but haven’t gotten close to a deal.
