It’s a fight that certainly doesn’t need to happen. Yet it’s a fight that has been looking more and more likely as 2020 continues. At first it sounded like Mayweather would have to step into the Octagon in order to collect another nine figure payday, but as time goes by Conor McGregor continues to pontificate on what could be if a rematch went down, and being the egomaniac that he is, he wants to try fighting Floyd in a boxing ring again.

With UFC president Dana White teasing an upcoming business endeavor with Mayweather later in 2020, who knows what is possible. Anything but McGregor actually winning, it seems.

Sure, Conor won the early rounds in their first fight before gassing hard. But in a new interview, Floyd claims he was just fooling around and barely trained for the fight. He also claimed he basically carried McGregor so a rematch would be financially viable.

”You know, actually, when I was getting ready for McGregor, for Conor McGregor I didn’t really train,” he told REVOLT TV. “So for the Conor McGregor fight, I ain’t really train. All I did was just push-ups and sit-ups. That’s all I did. Push-ups and sit-ups. Boxed a few times, hit the bag a few times. Training camp was in different places. I would do training camp in Vegas a few days. Sometimes I wouldn’t go to the gym for a week.”

”I took it serious, but as I said before I wanted to have some fun in the fight. And I wanted to entertain the people. So you know, just lead with that style that I had. It was entertaining, it was fun, so people enjoyed it. So you have to give people a show, so I gave people a show. If I wanted to go out and f**k him up and blaze him right out the gate, I coulda did that. But you know, my thing is if I would have did that, there probably wouldn’t be a part two.”

”Go back and look at All Access,” he added. “You didn’t see me training. I was doing a little bit, I would go to the gym two or three days, then don’t go to the gym for four days. But I was in shape, I was in shape. But … I wasn’t in shape like the Arturo Gatti fight. I was in dog shape. Diego Corrales, I was in dog shape. I was running in the mountains.”

Even ‘out of shape,’ Mayweather still breezed to a win in the first fight with McGregor and there’s no sign that a second would go any different. Conor has talked some talk about needing to be in a more consistent fighting condition, but all that talk of competing regularly in 2020 hasn’t resulted in any concrete fight news since his January win over Donald Cerrone. Let’s hope when we do get some big McGregor news, it’s MMA related, not boxing.
