Blachowicz: Reyes Had His Chance, But Jones Was Better

Thomas Shea-USA TODAY Sports

Jan Blachowicz clobbered Corey Anderson last weekend in the UFC Rio Rancho main event and the reward for his efforts, assuming the promotion is in line with this outline, is a title shot against reigning light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones.

That might comes as bad news to Dominick Reyes, who was hoping to score an immediate rematch following his controversial decision loss to “Bones” at UFC 247 earlier this month in Houston (more on that judging fiasco here).

“It’s my turn,” Blachowicz told MMA Fighting. “Thiago [Santos] had his chance. Dominick had his chance. They had their chance but they don’t use it. It was a really close fight, really good fight. Dominick Reyes made a really good challenge but Jones was better. A little bit but better. Dominick Reyes can fight against Thiago Santos and who win this fight can fight against me next for the title shot.”

If the promotion is going to green light Jones vs. Blachowicz, then it’s likely to happen at some point this summer. In addition, the Reyes vs. Santos fight makes sense from a matchmaking perspective, as both combatants remain ranked in the Top 5.

The only thing that could keep the power-punching Pole from the proverbial promised land is the fact that he may not be a financial draw, a problem highlighted by former UFC heavyweight contender, Brendan Schaub.

Time will tell.
