Bobby Lee looking to beat the ‘best fighter in the world you’ve never heard of’ at Bellator 239

When it comes to his 2019, lightweight Bobby Lee is happier than not with how the year turned out. In three bouts last year, Lee won two, gaining what he feels is valuable experience in the process.

“I’m pretty happy with how it went,” Lee told MMAWeekly.com. “It was my first time fighting out of state last year and that went well, then followed that up with my first main event win in October. I’m ready to move on to the big stage.”

For Lee, how he was able to carry himself in his 2019 shows the growth that he’s made in his game of late.

“It was the most comfortable in the fight moments than I’ve had,” said Lee. “I was more relaxed out there. I was ready for a competitive 15-minute fight, and that’s a difference from earlier, a couple years ago, so I’m maturing and growing in there.”

This Friday in Thackerville, Oklahoma, Lee (11-4) will face what he feels will be his toughest test to date when he takes on Shamil Nikaev (9-0) in a preliminary 155-pound bout at Bellator 239.

“He’s the best fighter in the world you’ve never heard of,” Lee said of Nikaev. “He’s a good fighter. He’s got that undefeated record, so I’m looking to give him that first loss.

“He’s a dynamic fighter, especially in that first 90 seconds, but after that he’ll start to slow down. He’s been in trouble in fights. I think there’s a clear difference (between the first 90 seconds and the rest of the fight), and I think I’m going to win. It’s going to be a great fight.”

When it comes to 2020, Lee feels the opportunities are plentiful now that he’s with Bellator.

“The depth of the roster at 155 in Bellator is very exciting,” said Lee. “You put my name in there with anyone and it’s going to be a great fight.”
