Felicia Spencer says she’s earned next shot at Amanda Nunes’ featherweight belt

NORFOLK, Va. – Felicia Spencer wants a crack at champ-champ Amanda Nunes.

The former Invicta FC featherweight champion believes she’s next in line to challenge UFC featherweight and bantamweight champion Nunes for her 145-pound strap. Spencer’s claim at the next title shot comes off her most recent win, as she put on a dominant performance on Saturday night at UFC on ESPN+ 27.

Spencer (8-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) stopped Zarah Fairn with vicious ground-and-pound in the first round of their co-main event bout.

“I didn’t really get to see Megan perform, I heard it was great, but I think I put myself in a great position to get a shot,” Spencer told reporters, including MMA Junkie. “So we just need to have a conversation with the UFC.”

Also on Saturday’s card, fellow featherweight contender Megan Anderson picked up a first-round finish, knocking out Norma Dumont.

UFC Norfolk figured to be a referendum on a shot at Nunes, and although Spencer respects Anderson’s resume and most recent win, the Canadian fighter thinks she’s ahead just from a simple fact.

“I do have a win over Megan,” Spencer said. “We both got first-round finishes tonight, so it was an interesting night for that. I think it turned out the way a lot of people expected and I could definitely see my self getting that shot and I think I earned it.”

There has been open speculation that Nunes plans to defend her featherweight title at UFC 250 on May 9 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Spencer would be delighted to fight Nunes and have the chance to face another great in women’s MMA.

‘Its kind of exciting the idea to potentially fight two legends with in a year, that would be awesome,” Spencer explained. “It be an honor to fight with in a year of being in the UFC be able to fight (Cris) Cyborg and Amanda Nunes. So that would be awesome, I’m really excited.”

UFC on ESPN+ 27 took place Saturday at Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Va. The card streamed on ESPN+.
