Weidman Won’t Close The Door On Return To 205

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion, Chris Weidman, is dropping back down to 185 pounds after getting stopped by Dominick Reyes in the “All American’s” one and only trip up to light heavyweight.

But fans should consider the move temporary.

“I do think I have the potential to beat any of them [light heavyweights] but I lost my first fight and I just figured you know what, let me just go where I’m comfortable to try and make sure I get this ‘W’ and give myself the most advantages as possible,” Weidman told Ariel Helwani (transcribed by Cole Shelton). “Size and strength is important, I wouldn’t have as much of an advantage up at 205 with that so, I’m not closing the door on 205 completely, but at this point I’m going to go down to middleweight. My weight is good so it shouldn’t be that bad.”

Weidman (14-5) has dropped five of his last six, all by way of knockout.

The 35 year-old “All American” will return to the Octagon in a middleweight main event opposite 185-pound contender Jack Hermansson on May 2 inside Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, depending on whether or not the coronavirus ban has been lifted.
