Poirier’s Foundation To Supply 1,000 Meals To Medical Staff

Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier is doing his part to assist with the ongoing COVID-19 spread.

As most of the world stays inside to self quarantine and “flatten the curve,” medical workers are left with the task of taking care of sick patients in over-crowded hospitals with limited supplies. It has become an extremely unpredictable and dangerous environment to work in, especially considering many medical workers run the risk of contracting the coronavirus and bringing it home to their families.

In order to help out those closest to the front-line battle, Poirier’s charity, The Good Fight Foundation, will be donating 1,000 meals starting this Easter Sunday to medical workers in the Lafayette, La., area. The GFF announced its plans last night via Twitter:

“The Good Fight Foundation will be teaming up with Deanos Pizza and donating 1,000 meals to the hospital staff on the front lines of COVID-19 in Lafayette, LA (on) Easter Sunday and throughout next week,” the statement read. “Wishing you all a safe and Happy Easter.”

Poirier, who has done wonders to promote his foundation and bring in as much funding as possible, spoke with MMA Junkie earlier this week to explain his plans for the donation.

“There’s three major hospitals here in Lafayette,” Poirier said. “We want to feed every employee – doctors, nurses – at every hospital.”

Poirier isn’t the only fighter putting his time in during the COVID-19 pandemic. Former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor has been taking to social media over the past few weeks to promote social distancing and overall safety for the country of Ireland. McGregor also donated over $1 million of his own money for the purchase of much-needed medical supplies.
