Ultramarathon runner, Navy SEAL, and notable motivational speaker David Goggins praised Tony Ferguson for honing his “savagery skills.”
Ferguson was scheduled to face UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov on April 18, but due to travel ban restrictions in Russia amid the coronavirus outbreak, Nurmagomedov was forced out. He was replaced by Justin Gaethje before the UFC was forced to pull the plug on the entire event.
That didn’t stop Ferguson from his initial obligation of making championship weight, though, as he continued to cut down to the 155-pound mark and successfully made it.
Yes, Ferguson is the type of guy to make weight for a canceled event, and Goggins loves it so much that he praised “El Cucuy” by yelling at the camera while jogging shirtless in the desert in a video posted to Twitter.
“I got a video the other day of this UFC fighter, Ferguson,” Goggins said. “This mother(expletive) weighs in, and the UFC is (expletive) canceled! He wasn’t just weighing in! He was getting in the (expletive) head of his opponent! What he did was this: He wanted you to remember his (expletive) hands and elbows slicing you the (expletive) up! Remember this: Stay hard at all times! Savagery!”
There are people out there using this time to hone their savagery skills. If you are not physically better than someone, make sure you gain the mental edge! Stay hard!
What makes Ferguson’s cut down to 155 pounds for a canceled even more crazy is the fact that he’s expected to weigh in again on May 9 for his rescheduled fight against Gaethje, having to put his body through the ringer once again.
But I guarantee you, we’re more concerned about that than Ferguson is.
